Volunteers Needed to Help Make Rendezvous 2026 a Success

The countdown to SICYC Rendezvous 2026 is well underway, and behind every great Rendezvous is a dedicated team of volunteers who help make the event run smoothly.

This year, SICYC is calling on members who are keen to lend a hand and be part of the action. Whether you have volunteered before or are simply looking for a way to get more involved, there are plenty of opportunities to contribute and help create another memorable Rendezvous for fellow Shaggers.

Member Spotlight: Oz Boatman

For Oz Boatman, life on the water began long before he ever owned a yacht.

His early boating experiences came courtesy of the “stink boats” built by his father. Armed with a speedboat licence and an enthusiasm for going fast, Oz was already developing a strong connection with the water. But at sixteen, his boating journey took a different direction when he discovered sailing through the Naval Reserve Cadets.

There, Oz learned the traditional skills of seamanship aboard heavy wooden boats, working with natural-fibre lines and gaining the practical experience that would stay with him throughout his life. Within five years, he had progressed to PO Instructor/Quartermaster, seemingly destined for a career in the Navy.
