Rendezvous Info

The iconic SICYC “Vice Commodores” Rendezvous is held annually on the last full weekend of August.

This is an event not to be missed  – 4 days of fun, great camaraderie and good times with like minded people.

It is located at the home of SICYC – Shag Islet, near beautiful Gloucester Passage in the Whitsundays. View the location on the SICYC Map.

Here’s an overview of the 2021 event.

UPDATED: 28/06/2021

We have lots of news to cover, but the information
you’ve all been waiting for is here!

Given the challenges we’ve faced with travel restrictions, change of ownership of our Whitsunday venue and commercial reality (many of our members and sponsors are doing it tough), there will be some changes to the proposed event and format for the 2021 SICYC Rendezvous.

Having said that, the important traditions and spirit of the Rendezvous will remain!

Below is the revised format and contact information:-

Thursday August 26th

  • Informal, relaxed meet and greet at Cape Gloucester Resort.
  • The Bar and Restaurant will be operating for meals and refreshments.
  • If you’re dining, please contact the resort directly to make a booking.

Friday August 27th

  • Shag Islet party.
  • BYO everything for the traditional annual gathering on our spiritual home.
  • In the evening Cape Gloucester Resort will have their bar and restaurant operating and we are welcome to join them.
  • Again, for dining reservations contact the resort directly.

Saturday August 28th

  • This is a bit different to what is usual.
  • There will be no official event held on the Saturday.
  • The reasons are many, but suffice it to say that the financial risk of trying to host a large complicated and expensive party are simply too great in the current, uncertain times.
  • Please also note that Cape Gloucester Resort will be off limits for a private function in the afternoon and evening so please be respectful of this.
  • By all means feel free to meet up on the beach for a quiet drink or 2 but in line with the comment above, any gathering of Shaggers should not occur directly in front of the resort and should in no way interfere with the event at Cape Gloucester.

Sunday August 29th

  • Pirate Party at Cape Gloucester Resort.
  • Bar and Kitchen operating for lunch and dinner, please book meals directly with the resort.
  • Please don’t contact the resort for any bookings (meals, Moorings, etc) prior to the 1st of July.

So there you have it in a nutshell… we’re back with a leaner than usual Rendezvous and the best news… minimal expenses means we don’t need to charge you a cent to join in!

After not being able to host an event last year, the Season of Sail will culminate on the usual weekend, in the usual place and we can all relax and have our usual great time together celebrating life at “Shaggers”!

Please register your attendance on the SICYC Facebook page for catering and organisational purposes.

About Shag Islet

Shag Islet is situated in the Gloucester Passage in the Whitsunday Region in North Queensland, Australia (20 03.8 S ... 148 26.5 E). It is a small, rocky islet with a beach which is exposed on the southern end on a falling tide.

There is nothing on the islet except at the annual SICYC Rendezvous when hundreds of "Vice Commodores" gather on the last week end in August each year. MAP
